A Chance to Swim in Windex

She promised we would love it. A floating city would take us to a place with “water the color of Windex and white sugar sand beaches”. Though our January-pasty faces could use some Caribbean sun, she had us gagging at the idea of traveling anywhere in a floating city even if we only had to pay port taxes. After several minutes of stifling laughter I (Jenn) managed to say “No, thank you. I’m just trying to call Air Canada.” We’re finding there is a learning curve when it comes to booking transatlantic flights for a family of five. Having our call diverted to a third-party call center and winning a “free cruise” was just one of a few things we weren’t expecting. We have booked our tickets and we now have an official start date for our Home Assignment this year. What is a Home Assignment? I’m glad you asked. I’ve explained that and a few others terms so that we’re all on the same page. In order to continue serving Third-Culture Kids (TCKs) with WorldVenture at the International Christian School of Budapest we will be moving from Set Assignment to Open Assignment (See chart below for basic differences). As a result, we will be on Home Assignment from late June 2016. We plan to return to Budapest in time for the 2017-2018 school year. Home Assignmentmeans that while we are in the U.S. our primary work responsibilities are to spread the word about ministry to TCKs and to recruit financial partners. (More on that another time.) We are looking forward to our time in the U.S. with a mix of anticipation and trepidation. God has made a home for us here in Hungary and, honestly, we have mixed feelings about leaving it for a year. One thing we are sure of is that God will be with us and we can trust Him to provide for all of our needs including the ones that have nothing to do with swimming with dolphins in cleaning solution.
Set Assignment
Monthly financial needs can be met by regular pledges or “one-time” donations.
A family can only serve a maximum of four years.

Home Assignment Needs
Living Space - We need some square footage to call “home” while we are in the U.S. Ideally this space will be rent-free or low-rent. We need two or three bedrooms. We are aiming for Northern Colorado or Southeast Wyoming along the I-25 corridor.
A Car - We need a reliable vehicle to carry us from place to place during our year in the States. It must have five working seat belts and be able to fit three booster seats side by side in the back seat. Great fuel economy is a definite plus
Pray With Us
As always, we appreciate your prayers. Please keep them up! There is an overwhelming pile of details to see to before we touch down at DIA six months from now. I’ve listed a few of the most pressing right now.
We need a teacher to cover the middle school Health classes.
We are having minor, but time consuming, issues with our car and house alarm which are taking time and energy away from preparing material for our Home Assignment.
